NGORONGORO CRATER

Ngorongoro Crater - Home of Big 5

Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most famous safari destinations in Africa. Often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” it is the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera. The crater is about 600 meters deep and 19 kilometers wide, with rich grasslands, forests, and a lake at the center.

This natural bowl is home to thousands of animals, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and rhinos. Because the animals stay inside the crater year-round, it’s one of the best places to see wildlife in a short time. The views from the rim are breathtaking, and the drive down into the crater feels like entering another world.

Ngorongoro is also part of a larger conservation area that includes mountains, forests, and important cultural sites. It’s a great place to combine nature, wildlife, and history in one visit.

Best Time to Visit Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro Crater can be visited all year. The best time is during the dry season from June to October, when the weather is sunny and animals are easy to spot. The roads are also smoother, and the views are clear.

From November to May, the area becomes green and beautiful after the rains. There are fewer tourists, and it’s a great time for birdwatching and photography. The crater still has plenty of animals during this season, so you won’t miss out.
